The black rook is not defended. But what else can White attack? Black’s queen is save and so seems the king, behind is wall of pawns.
So, no double attack this time? Oh yes! Do you notice the white rook? It is pointed at the black king. If it wasn’t for the pawn in front of him, the black king would have a huge problem.
White notices it, too. Het launches a very clever attack with his queen. At the same time, she attacks the rook and the pawn.
If Black moves his rook, the White queen takes the pawn: checkmate.
If Black defends against mate, White wins a rook.
